Farley Hall Equestrian Centre sits between Swallowfield and Farley Hill in the Borough of Wokingham, Berkshire. Reading is just ten minutes away by car and London just 30 minutes away from Reading by train.

Local competition venues and tack yards

Eileen Douglas, Chequers Lane, Eversley – Small branch of Eileen Douglas, 15 mins from yard

Eileen Douglas, Wokingham – Large tack shop and feed merchants, 15 mins from yard

Wellington Riding, Small tack shop, 5-7 mins from yard

Mill Wheel, Rose Cottage, Binfield – large tack shop and feed merchants, 20-25 mins from yard

Horns Farm, Reading Road, Finchampstead – large tack shop and feed merchants, 7-10 mins from yard

Rose Cottage, same venue as Mill Wheel tack shop above, unaffiliated dressage throughout summer, affiliated SJ through the year.

Vicarage Farm, 35-45 mins, affiliated and unaffiliated SJ and XC in the spring/summer only. Lovely show jumping venue with properly fenced flat rings.

Yateley, show jumping venue only 15-20 mins from yard in a lorry, very handy throughout spring as they start competitions on grass in March. Unaffiliated classes followed by affiliated for rest of day.

Wellington Riding, 5-7 mins from yard (maybe 10 in lorry), has affiliated/unaffiliated dressage/ show jumping mainly throughout winter, XC schooling, one day events and hunter trials in summer. Can hire large indoor school quite reasonably. Also has Grand Prix dressage, demos and events.

Merrist Wood, 40-50 mins from yard in lorry. Huge indoor school, absolutely loads on October-March usually 2-3 competitions a week including indoor XC, dressage and show jumping (affiliated and unaffiliated), sometimes derby jumping and indoor one-day-events.

Blewbury 35-45 mins from yard in lorry, has affiliated SJ twice a week for most of the year especially in winter and has an indoor warm-up, so handy for wintry outings.

Boomerang, 45 mins from yard in lorry, XC schooling facility. Also has indoor school and outdoor surfaces for jumping, all available to hire. Russ Hardy teaches there and is an excellent XC especially for novice/nervous riders and young horses.

Tweseldown, 20-25min from yard in lorry, they hold numerous one day events throughout the year, BE and unaffiliated. Big plus is the all-weather sand going which means you can school there throughout the winter. Courses from Intro to Intermediate.

Fair Oak, Rogate, 1hr in lorry, XC schooling from 1ft6 to 3ft6. Can also hire SJ field. Only open spring/summer.

Windsor Park Equestrian Club, Smith’s Lawn, Ascot. 45-50mins, affiliated dressage/SJ and unaffiliated throughout summer, also has carriage driving and polo.

Gallops: Racehorse trainer Mouse Hamilton-Fairley has a 6 or 7 furlong all-weather gallop track in Bramshill, 10-15min in lorry, available to hire for £15/horse. Can hire weekdays after 11.30am and weekends any time. To hack, 45 mins if you trot most of the way.

Bramshill Forest: can be reached by hacking in about 20 mins if you trot some of the way. Miles and miles of forestry to hack around with a permit.
